The book Guilliman returns in is The Gathering Storm: Fracture of Biel-Tan. It is the first in a series of three books that chronicle the events leading up to the Primarch’s return. In it, we see the Imperium in a state of chaos, with civil war raging on many fronts. The Tau are expanding their sphere of influence, and the Eldar are preparing for something…big. Meanwhile, the forces of Chaos are not idle, and their schemes could spell doom for the Imperium if they are not stopped. Can Guilliman save the Imperium from destruction?

The reaction of the other Primarchs to Guilliman’s return
The reaction of the other Primarchs to Guilliman’s return is mixed. Vulkan and Sanguinius are both pleased to see their brother, and Rogal Dorn is at least civil. Lion El’Jonson, however, is deeply resentful of Guilliman’s return, viewing it as a challenge to his authority as primarch of the Dark Angels. The two nearly come to blows before being separated by Vulkan.
The reaction of the Imperium’s enemies to Guilliman’s return
During the events of the 13th Black Crusade,’The Reawakening’, Word Bearers Dark Apostle Erebus orbits the Imperial world of Calth in his battle-barge Covenant of Blood. There he scheme’s to unleash a Warp rift above the planet which will consume it. As part of his scheme, Erebus releases a psychic shadow over Calth which plunges the planet into darkness and disrupts communications.
As the Ultramarines and their allies mobilise to repel the Chaos forces, Guilliman is contacted by Cypher. Cypher tells Guilliman that Lorgar has been planning this invasion for a long time and that he must be stopped. Guilliman then leaves Calth with a small force to confront Lorgar while the rest of his forces stay behind to repel the invaders.
Upon arrival at Lorgar’s fortress-monastery on Samus Prime, Guilliman is successful in stopping him and eventually returns to Calth. However, upon his return he finds that the planet has been plunged into darkness and that most of his forces have been killed or corrupted by Chaos.

The implications of Guilliman’s return for the future of the Imperium
The return of Roboute Guilliman is a significant event for the Imperium of Mankind. Guilliman is the rightful Emperor of the Imperium, and his return could herald a new age for humanity. The implications of his return are significant, and could change the course of the Imperium’s future.
What Guilliman’s return means for the Imperium’s enemies
On the blackest of days, when all hope seems lost and the forces of Chaos seem poised to triumph, the Emperor always has one more trick up His sleeve. That trump card is His beloved son, Roboute Guilliman, Primarch of the Ultramarines and Lord Commander of the Imperium.
With Guilliman at the head of His armies, the Imperium has stopped Chaos in its tracks and begun to push back. This has put the factions of Chaos on edge, as they know that if Guilliman is allowed to continue his crusade unchecked, they will be driven back into the Eye of Terror.
The return of Guilliman means that the enemies of the Imperium are now fighting a two-front war. Not only do they have to contend with Guilliman’s forces, but also with those of his brother primarchs. This has put a tremendous strain on their resources, and many believe that it is only a matter of time before they are defeated.
The impact of Guilliman’s return on the wider Warhammer 40,000 universe
In October 2017, it was announced that Guilliman would be returning to the Warhammer 40,000 universe in a new book named The Primarch. This announcement sparked a lot of speculation as to the wider implications of Guilliman’s return.
The most obvious implication is that the Imperium will now have one of its strongest leaders back at the helm. Guilliman is known for his martial prowess and his tactical genius, so his return will no doubt be a boost to the Imperium’s military might. However, it remains to be seen how much of an impact he will actually have on the unfolding events of Warhammer 40,000.
Another interesting implication is that Guilliman’s return could mark the beginning of a new era for the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Up until now, the Imperium has been in a state of decline, slowly losing ground to its enemies. With one of its strongest leaders back at the helm, however, the Imperium may be able to turn the tide and start reclaiming lost territory. This would have huge implications for the balance of power in the galaxy and could change the course of the Warhammer 40,000 story significantly.
It is still too early to say definitively what implications Guilliman’s return will have on the wider Warhammer 40,000 universe. However, it is clear that his return is sure to have a significant impact on the story moving forward.
